Specification Guide (ID no. 03)
Evadry Ltd holders of; NZ. Patent 537553
AUS. Innovation Patent 2005100923
Definition:
Evadry has designed and produced a saddle flashing (Protecto Joist)(SF) constructed from a single
piece of plate injected UV stabilised polypropylene.
It has been designed to provide water proofing at the perpendicular intersection
of cantilevered joist or rafter and the exterior wall. (It will fit wet or dry dressed timber).
Characteristics:
- it has no laps or joins and its flange sizes comply with all relevant
New Zealand building standards.
- it's tough plastic construction allows it to be flexible and will not split when a
clout is driven through it. (even in cold temperatures).
- It is not effected by glues or silicones or timber treatment (LOSP).
- it has been designed in such a way that the return flanges (on the perimeter
of the saddle flashing (Protecto Joist)) spring back firm against the inside surface of the cladding which
will ensure an excellent weather seal.
- The saddle flashing (Protecto Joist) is designed to fit 100mm x 50mm through to 250mm x 50mm sized timber.
- the SF can be cut on site with a knife or saw where indicated on the saddle flashing (Protecto Joist)
to fit any 50mm nominally wide timber joist 250mm and smaller.
- The standard sizes of 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, and 250mm have been indicated on the saddle
flashing (Protecto Joist) showing where the cut should be made and allows for a standard horizontal Z
flashing (Protecto Joist) to tuck in behind (refer to the diagrams).
Installation: (step by step guide)
- When using monolithic cladding ensure H3.1 treated cavity battens are installed
and frame the joists to be flashed.
- Sit the (SF) in position against the cavity battens and mark the outer
edge of the flashing on the joist. Remove the flashing and apply a bead of Holdfast
FIX ALL HIGH TACK sealant/adhesive 20mm from this mark.
Trim the flashing to the correct depth.
- Drive a galvanised clout either side of the flashing as shown in the diagram
through the flange 15mm from the front edge.
- Before installing the cladding which is cut to fit around the (SF), ensure the
perimeter weather seal of the (SF) is folded back onto itself allowing it to naturally
spring up against the cladding as it is installed.
- Once the cladding is in place either; cut treated timber scribers to conceal any visible
flashing making sure top and bottom is concealed, or paint any visable flashing with Resene
Adhesion Primer and two top coats. This will ensure the (SF)
will not suffer adverse environmental damage and deterioration over time.
